Today, a new generation is facing mounting food insecurity. World food prices hit record highs in March-April 2022, impacting food insecure countries and populations hard. This third global food price crisis in 15 years was sparked by Russia’s war of aggression on Ukraine. But it has been fueled by persistent underlying flaws and fragilities on which our food systems are based - such as import dependency and excessive commodity speculation.

In this online event for policy-shapers and civil society, leading food security experts take stock of the critical factors fanning the flames of global hunger. And they provide concrete policy prescriptions of what can be done to relieve this food price crisis now, and to create more resilient food and agricultural systems in the long term.

Michael Fakhri, UN Special Rapporteur on the right to food

Jennifer Clapp, IPES-Food, and professor of global food security and sustainability at the University of Waterloo, Canada
