A Short Film (30-40 minutes) on the Xenophobic Violence in South Africa

Background

The Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung (RLS) is an internationally active, left-wing, non-profit organisation for political education and affiliated with the German party Die Linke. Since 1990, the organisation has been dedicated to the study of social, political and economic processes and developments worldwide. We work in the context of the growing manifold crises of our current political and economic system. In cooperation with other progressive organisations from all parts of the world, we work for democratic and social participation, empowerment of disadvantaged groups and alternative economic and social development. Through our international activities, we aim to provide political education through scientific analysis, public programs and joint projects with our partner organisations.

RLS seeks to contract a filmmaker to produce a 30-40-minute(s) film with a focus on xenophobia in South Africa. The filmmaker will be responsible for the entire film production process. RLS is open to creative and innovative ideas to ensure that the objectives for which the film is produced are met and that the voices of the victims of xenophobia and the struggles they are facing are amplified through the film.

Duration

This consultancy starts on the date the contract is signed with RLS. The work on the film and the completion of the film will take place within a binding schedule agreed between the filmmaker/consultant and RLS.

Application process

Eligible filmmakers are invited to submit technical proposals and a financial quotation to undertake this work. The quotation must include all costs from conception to production and submission of final documentary/film to RLS. Proposals must be sent to Fredson Guilengue (fredson.guilengue@rosalux.org). Applications should be submitted not later than by 13:00 on July 11, 2024.

Qualifications

The filmmaker/consultant must have the following qualifications:

  • Relevant professional background;
  • Experience in innovative ways of film-making aimed at mobilizing public opinion;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Previous experience in film production related to the topic of xenophobia is an advantage.  

Receipt of documents will not be acknowledged. The decision will be made on the basis of the submitted application according to the following weighting of the evaluation criteria: reputation experience of the film maker: 10% / price: 90%.
