Drought and deforestation in the Comoro Islands

By
RLS

The Comoros archipelago is beset by a number of environmental challenges including poor fishing practices, deforestation, rising sea levels, coastal erosion and marine flooding, drought and waste management. These challenges put significant pressure on Comorians and there has been a recent uptick in migration to other countries in search of more stable living conditions.

Water is life and a reforested Comoros can offer more hope to young people. That is why the Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung Southern Africa Office is offering support to local and grassroots youth organisations that promote environmental awareness, reforestation and coalition building with other small island nations and beyond.

Deadline for proposal submissions: 02 February 2024.
